Facilities Management - The History

Although still a relatively young discipline facilities management has undergone continual reinvention. The sector grew out of the cost-cutting initiatives of the 1970s and 1980s, during this time organisations began to identify the many benefits of outsourcing their non-core services. As a response, the sector brought together a number of services concerned with the physical environment of all businesses; these included 'hard' services, which dealt with the physical make up of a business such as property maintenance to contract cleaning.

Today

Today facilities management has matured- it is now a sector requiring skill and experience. It can provide key business solutions, shape an office environment and offer real savings to organisations and business.
